First of all, when we arrived, the elevator was not working to reach the 3rd floor. In fact, we were the ones who discovered the problem, as our young son was stuck inside for a few minutes. He had the presence of mind to order the elevator to return to the ground floor, so he was able to get out. Following this incident, we had to take all our luggage up to the 3rd floor ourselves. Since we'd been on the road for over a week, we had four large suitcases and three smaller ones.
Realizing that this situation didn't make sense for one of the travelers in our group (a 73-year-old lady with hip problems), we asked to leave the hotel with a refund. The receptionist told us that this was not possible, as we had already entered the rooms, even though it had only been a few minutes. To reassure us, he confirmed that the elevator repairman was on his way... which wasn't quite right; we found out later.
So we went out for the evening, and by the time we returned late, we were convinced that the elevator was working, since the employee we'd seen earlier had confirmed that the repairman was on his way. What's more, there were no warning signs on the elevator. So two people in the group, including my 73-year-old mother-in-law, got on, but got stuck in the elevator again. We considered the failure to place a warning sign to be gross negligence, given that the employee had assured us that everything would be repair
