Casa Loa is a fairly recent boutique hotel well located in the center of Holbox at a 15 mins walk from the ferry. It offered very good value for the price I paid, for Holbox, a large room with king size bed, nice bathroom with hot rain shower. The design is modern, simple and in very good taste. The wifi average. I had the last room down the corridor from the reception at the back of hotel, it was quiet at night but noisy during the day as there is much talking at the reception and in the corridor, ask for a room on the second floor, it should be more quiet. I recommend it if you want to go to Holbox, but I do not decommend Holbox at all. I hated it and spent most of my time in my room. It is a touristic hell in my opinion, there is nothing there but hotels, restaurants and tons of tourists walking around with cell phone in hand. The streets are cluttered by hundreds of small noisy off-road vehicles ; you can hardly walk ten feet before having to get out of the way. The beach is crowded and the prices 20 to 30% higher than elsewhere, the hotels at least double the price. This is not Mexico, it is a concentration camp for tourists. If you sant to see Mexico and the best quiet beaches, they are on Costa Esmeralda, west of Holbox between El Cuyo and Progreso. Mahahual in the South is in the same league as Holbox, a place to avoid, invaded by cruise ships.
