I left Excellence Playa Mujeres two nights early because I felt unwelcome, uncomfortable, and disappointed by the resort’s failure to deliver a five-star experience.
My first room was noisy, located near staff workspaces and walkways, with staff yelling, carts rattling, and people using my patio as a shortcut. The phone barely worked, the shower had no hot water, and the room was dusty and shabby. When I was locked out of my room, it took almost 30 minutes for help to arrive and hours to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, I was stranded and unwell with a migraine. Despite explaining all this, the resort’s response was slow, unapologetic, and dismissive.
The second room wasn’t much better, with drains making loud noises, a dirty bathtub upon arrival, and lukewarm water. The food was underwhelming, with overcooked fish at two restaurants. The resort app didn’t work throughout my stay, and the service was inconsistent at best.
Having been to other luxury resorts, I was shocked at the poor quality here. I tried to resolve these issues onsite, by phone, and by email, but the resort has effectively ghosted me. If you have any problems during your stay, don’t expect accountability or fair compensation.
