The Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail is a roughly 5-mile return hike to a scenic ridge summit in Oahu, Hawaii. The first leg of this hike is rated easy, and becomes more moderate in difficulty as the trail ascends the mountainous ridge. You can walk up stairs to the summit to take in the views.

Highlights of the Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail

The first 1.5 miles of the Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail is suited to any age or hiking experience. With a relatively flat surface, the trail begins as a paved path and eventually transitions to a dirt trail through shaded areas beneath a lush tree canopy.

On your hike you’ll enjoy a mix of sights ranging from lush tropical forests and colourful wildflowers, to sweeping vista views over the mountains. Once at the summit of the ridge, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over virtually the entire island of Oahu on a clear day.

Good to know when visiting Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail

The Wiliwilinui Ridge trailhead is located within a gated residential community, Waialae Iki. Check in at the security guard station for access and directions to the trail. A limited number of trail passes are issued each day, so plan accordingly if you’re visiting during a busy holiday or weekend.

Keep in mind Hawaii’s tropical climate can change unexpectedly, so it’s best to be prepared and pack water, sun cream, and a rain jacket. As the trail reaches the summit, you will encounter a lot of stairs. Conditions may be muddy if it rained recently, so be sure you’re wearing good hiking shoes.
